Friday’s Weather: Sun in the South, Clouds in the Mountains
Friday’s forecast promises variable weather for Madeira. While the north and higher altitudes can expect more cloud cover, the southern coast, including Funchal, will enjoy mostly partly cloudy skies. The sea temperature is holding at a pleasant 23–24°C, perfect for an afternoon swim.
- Who it affects: All visitors to the island.
- What this means in practice: A perfect day for walking around Funchal, visiting the botanical gardens, or relaxing on the south coast beaches. If you are planning a ridge hike (e.g., from Pico do Areeiro), be prepared for fog and reduced visibility.
- Our recommendation: Use the morning for mountain activities and move south for the afternoon sun.
Mountain Trail Status: Key Information for Hikers
The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) is providing an update on the status of the most popular trails and a reminder about the mandatory online registration and fee payment via the Simplifica portal for access to marked trails (PR).
- PR1 – Vereda do Areeiro (Pico do Areeiro – Pico Ruivo): Only the western route via the tunnels is open. The eastern route via Pico das Torres remains closed long-term for safety reasons.
- PR1.3 – Vereda da Encumeada: Only the section from Pico Ruivo to the Boca das Torrinhas viewpoint is passable. The connecting section to Encumeada is still closed.
- PR10 – Levada do Furado: The trail is fully open without any restrictions following summer maintenance.
Recommendation: Before any hike, check the current trail status on the official IFCN website and remember to register and pay online in advance.

- Who it affects: Drivers and tourists staying in or traveling through the Porto Moniz area.
- What this means in practice: Some local roads in the town center will be closed between 21:00 and 23:30. This may complicate traffic and access to the natural lava pools.
