There’s so much more to Madeira than PR1 or 25 Fontes!

Yet most people keep going to the same places. Why? Because they’ve seen them on social media. Because they don’t know where else to go, what the weather will be like, or whether the trail is even open and worth the effort.

Madeira Journey was created to change that.
I want to offer travelers:

  • 📍 Clear descriptions, maps, GPX downloads, and practical tips

  • 🕒 Alerts about closures, weather warnings, and trail conditions

  • 🚶‍♀️ Alternative hikes — no queues, no tourist bottlenecks

  • 📷 Reality, not drone shots that you will never experience with your own eyes on Madeira

I know Madeira like the back of my hand

I’ve traveled the world far and wide, but Madeira captured my heart in a way no other place has. I keep coming back. This island has a soul – wild, green, and magical. And it deserves a tool that shows travelers more than just a handful of overcrowded Instagram spots.

👀 What’s the goal?

  • 🌿 Redistribute foot traffic across the island, so travelers get more out of their trip — not just the usual hotspots, but hidden gems that are just as beautiful. It keeps Madeira authentic, healthy, and enjoyable for both locals and visitors.

  • 🚗 Reduce traffic and overtourism at the most crowded locations. Spots like 25 Fontes, Pico do Areeiro or Ponta de São Lourenço often suffer from overwhelming crowds. By showcasing alternatives and helping plan smarter, we ease pressure on nature and people alike.

  • 🌱 Give nature a break. Madeira is a fragile ecosystem. When hundreds of hikers take the same path every day, it leaves a mark. Less erosion, less litter, less noise — that’s part of the mission too.

  • 🤝 Make trip planning stress-free for independent travelers. No more digging through five different websites to check if a trail is open. Everything you need — in one place, clear and distraction-free.

  • 🧡 And most importantly — give back to Madeira. This island has given me so much. It’s more than a travel destination. It’s a place of inspiration, peace, and deep connection to nature. With this project, I’m giving something back and helping others experience that same magic.
