Weather Invites You to the Ocean, But Be Cautious in the Mountains
Today in Madeira is perfect for all lovers of sun and sea. According to meteorologists, a clear day awaits us with temperatures climbing to 28°C (and up to 27°C on Porto Santo). The water temperature is a luxurious 23 to 25°C, and waves on the south coast will not exceed one meter. This makes it a perfect day for swimming, a dolphin-watching boat trip, or relaxing on the beach.

Trail Update: PR1 and Mandatory Registration
Planning a hike to the highest peaks? The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) reminds visitors that a mandatory reservation and payment system is in effect for the most popular trails (PRs). Without online registration on the SIMplifica portal, you risk a fine.
Key Information for the PR1 Trail (Pico do Arieiro ↔ Pico Ruivo):
- The eastern route via Pico das Torres is still CLOSED.
- Only the western route through the tunnels is accessible.
- The section between the Pedra Rija viewpoint and Pico Ruivo is one-way. You cannot return the same way.
- The fee for the complete traverse is €10.50.
Good news for nature lovers: the population of the rare Zino’s Petrel, which nests in this area, has stabilized after the 2024 fires. Therefore, strictly adhere to the prohibition of entering areas off the marked paths.
Other restrictions: On the PR 1.3 Vereda da Encumeada trail, only the section from Pico Ruivo to Boca das Torrinhas is open.
Traffic Restrictions in Funchal and the North
Getting around the island by car and public transport requires some planning today. Be prepared for the following restrictions:
Funchal Center: Public Transport Changes and Pedestrian Closures
New bus lanes on Rua 5 de Outubro and surrounding streets are causing confusion, bus queues, and relocated stops in the city center. If you use the yellow Horários do Funchal buses, allow for extra travel time.

- What it means in practice: You may have to wait longer for your bus, and your usual stop might be in a different location.
- Important for pedestrians: The historic Ponte do Pelourinho bridge is completely closed. You must use adjacent bridges to cross the riverbed.

Planning a walk or run from the hotel zone to Câmara de Lobos? A section of the coastal promenade at Praia Formosa (near Cimentos Madeira) is completely closed for the next three weeks due to an unstable subsoil. The path is interrupted, and a detour via the main road is necessary.
North Coast: Upcoming Works near Seixal
Good news for safety: the government has approved the construction of a protective tunnel on a hazardous section of the road near Seixal, which is prone to rockfalls. Expect construction work to begin here in the coming months, which will lead to traffic restrictions and possible delays.

Madeira is using modern technology to restore forests destroyed by fires. Above the mountains in areas like Ribeira Brava, you might spot special drones from the forestry service. They are mapping the terrain and even testing aerial seeding.
