- For hikers: If you’re planning a hike, set out as early as possible in the morning. During midday and afternoon hours, there’s a risk of heatstroke and rapid dehydration. Safety comes first.
- For ocean lovers: Conditions are perfect for swimming. The sea is calm with waves up to one meter, and the water temperature is between 23 and 24 °C. It’s a great day to visit the beaches, the natural pools in Porto Moniz, or go on a boat trip.

For any trip, bring plenty of water (at least 2 liters per person), a hat, and sunscreen. It’s best to skip mountain hikes this afternoon.
Trail Status: PR1 is Open, Pay Attention to Details
Good news for everyone planning to tackle the iconic PR1 Vereda do Areeiro trail (Pico do Arieiro – Pico Ruivo). The trail is fully open every day of the week.
What to Watch Out For?
- East path closure: Only the western route through the tunnels is accessible. The eastern path via Pico das Torres remains closed. Therefore, don’t forget a headlamp or flashlight.
- Mandatory fee: There is a €3 entrance fee per person. You must book and pay online in advance via the Simplifica portal. Forest guards are conducting checks.
